National Council for Women’s Societies (NCWS) is creating a farm centre to spur grassroots women and youth participation in agriculture. 

NCWS in collaboration with Peace, Advocacy and Community Development Initiative (PACDIN) stated this at a press conference in Abuja. 

The council is also set to host a workshop aimed at empowering Nigerian women in agric entrepreneurship.  

The National President of NCWS, Mrs Gloria Laraba Shoda, said the gesture was as a result of government desires to diversify the economy from oil-based to agriculture and other resources, and the main target of this workshop is the rural women. 

“The broad aim of the workshop is to create opportunities through farm centers to spur grass root women and youths in the development of competitive, sustainable and inclusive agric business and agro industries in Nigeria as a pathway to increase economic gross, food security, youths and women empowerment for wealth creation,” she said.  

Mrs. Laraba, who was represented by the assistant Public Relation Officer of NCWS,  Safia Ibrahim, said agriculture remains the mainstay of the nation, especially in rural areas; therefore they are encouraged to fully involve themselves in agriculture and agro-allied business.
