The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) has held a local food exhibition which depicted the culinary richness of the about 30 ethnic groups in Nasarawa State.

The event, tagged ‘Unity in Diversity’, was held in Lafia, aimed at identifying food as a major instrument for enhancing peace, cohesion and security.

A former national president of the NCWS, Hajiya Ramatu Dalhatu said, “The availability of food determines the strength and virility of a society and we call on leaders to prioritise production and commercialisation of indigenous agricultural products as part of empowering the people.”

In her remarks, Nasarawa State chairperson of NCWS Mrs Aisha Idoma, said the exhibition was geared towards promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic groups in the state.

The exhibitors called on government to promote production and consumption of local foods.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, who inspected the food on display, commended the organisers for their initiative and pledged to support groups whose focus was centred on cultural integration and harmony.
