NDC delegates to affirm Obi as presidential candidate today

The Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly primaries of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold nationwide today.

Daily Trust reports that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election, who is now the sole presidential aspirant of the NDC, will be officially confirmed as the party’s aspirant through affirmation by the delegates across the state today.

A joint statement by the National Chairman of the party, Senator Moses Cleopas, and the National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, said the party adjusted the primaries to today as a result of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and the resulting public holidays, which caused transportation and logistical challenges.

According to the statement, the processes for the primaries on May 29 will be as follows: the Presidential primary will be by affirmation, while those of the National Assembly, State Assembly, and governorship will involve both primaries and affirmations.

The statement added that the respective teams will collate and process all results and forward them to the National Headquarters, where the National Working Committee will announce the final outcomes.

The statement further warned that no state executive or team has the mandate to announce any results.

Our correspondent further reports that most of the aspirants for the Senate and the House of Representatives will emerge through affirmation by the delegates across the states.
