The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has marked its 25th anniversary with commendations from the Forum of Presidents of Apex Ethnic Nationalities in the Niger Delta for what it described as transformative achievements under its current leadership.

In a joint statement signed by over 40 prominent elder statesmen, academics, and community leaders, the forum praised the Board Chairman, Barr. Chiedu Ebie, and Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for their “unwavering commitment” to the region’s sustainable development.

The group highlighted initiatives such as Project Hope, the Youth Internship Scheme, and Light Up the Niger Delta as examples of projects that have improved infrastructure, human capital, and social welfare. They also commended the Board’s focus on transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management.

In the health sector, the forum noted the construction of 142 modern health centres, the revival of the free healthcare programme, and ongoing work on the Niger Delta Regional Specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt. In education, it cited the Foreign Post-Graduate Scholarship—which has benefited 2,323 students—the National Post-Graduate Scholarship, and rehabilitation of schools. The U-Lesson Educational Programme launched in October 2024 was also praised for promoting digital learning.

The forum urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to retain the current Board, warning that dissolution “would truncate ongoing progress” and potentially reignite tensions in the region. It also called for the release of the NDDC Forensic Audit Report to strengthen accountability.

Acknowledging the role of the National Assembly, state governors, and other stakeholders, the forum pledged continued support for the Commission’s development mission, lauding its ability to avoid “the pitfalls of past administrations.”
