NDDC Finance Director Bags Ph.D. in Disaster Risk Management from UNIPORT

The Director of Finance and Accounts of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Kunemofa Asu, has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Disaster Risk Management by the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

The degree was conferred during the university’s 36th Combined Convocation Ceremony held on Saturday at the M&W Convocation Arena in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Dr. Asu, a Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and the Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria (ISMN), earned the doctorate after completing advanced studies in Disaster Risk Management.

The convocation ceremony also featured a lecture on leadership and infrastructure development delivered by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike.

The academic achievement adds to Dr. Asu’s growing list of professional and educational accomplishments. She previously obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the National Open University of Nigeria and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from Rivers State University.

With more than two decades of experience in financial management and public sector administration, Dr. Asu has played a key role in financial governance and development initiatives at the NDDC.

She is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), the Association of Chartered Certified System Accountants, and the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Risk Management Institute.

Dr. Asu has received several recognitions for her contributions to public service, finance, and development, including the Peace Achievers International Award 2025 and the International Public Service Excellence Award 2026 presented at the United Kingdom Parliament in London.

Colleagues, associates, and well-wishers have continued to congratulate her on the attainment of the doctoral degree, describing it as a reflection of her commitment to professional excellence and lifelong learning.
