The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), in collaboration with Aisha Arobo Catering and Training Centre (AACTC), has graduated 52 youths in catering and pastry services in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
The training was an initiative of the FCT NDE office under its Vocational Skills Development Department (VSDD) geared towards empowering youths to becoming entrepreneurs to reduce unemployment.
FCT NDE Coordinator, Mrs. Naomi Mutah Nyadar, said the training was part of effort of the directorate to reduce unemployment and make youths self-reliant.
Mrs. Nyadar said, “The youths who are graduating into self-employment today probably entered the training with lack of marketable skills and could have easily fallen prey to any deviant behaviour common with unemployed youths in Nigeria.
“It is heart-warming, therefore, to note that these youths have become the next generation of great caterers and master chefs who will provide the needed products and services for economic growth of our dear country.”
She commended AACTC for collaborating with the directorate and urged the graduands to use the acquired skills and knowledge to be self-reliant.
One of the graduands, Miss Salma Mohammed, expressed delight for participating in the training and called on unemployed youths, especially graduates, to avail themselves such empowerment opportunities to become job creators instead of waiting endlessly for white collar jobs.
