NDE empowers 50 women on skill acquisition

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced the training of 50 Women on the acquisition of Tie and Dye skills in Kano state under its business training programme.
The state coordinator, Malam Aliyu Abubakar Bichi said the training was aimed at empowering the beneficiaries with skills that would enable them establish their own businesses.
He said the 50 Women would also undergo the Basic Business Training (BBT), designed to stimulate business initiatives among the women to enable them identify opportunities.
Bichi added that the programme was designed to take advantage of the opportunities in the micro and small business sub-sector of the economy for wealth and employment to be created.
On Community Based Training Scheme (CBTS), the coordinator said NDE had engaged 50 youths and women to acquire vocational skills in GSM repairs, motorcycles repairs, fashion design, aluminum pot production and beads making.
He stated that the main objective of the project was to create skilled persons in both rural and urban areas who would in turn become self-employed and further create employment and reduce poverty.
Bichi further added that the directorate had also introduced Graduate Coaching Scheme (GCS) with the engagement of unemployed trained graduates to coach hundreds of young school leavers with deficiencies in their secondary school results.
He said the GCS was designed to provide transient employment for the unemployed graduates, especially those with qualifications in education such as Bachelor of Education or National Certificate in Education (NCE).
