This was disclosed when Director General of the NDE Malam Abubakar Mohammed and his management team paid a courtesy call on the Indian High Commissioner Mahash Sachdev.
Mohammed stated that the visit by the NDE was not only to inform the High Commissioner about the the programmes and schemes of the NDE aimed at skills development but also for both parties to work together in fighting unemployment in Nigeria.
He noted that efforts by the directorate to key into the national development agenda particularly on job creation can be strengthened by reaching-out to relevant stakeholders for collaboration, adding that Nigeria and India live in diplomatic harmony, which creates an opportunity to maximise synergy for growth, development and job creation.
According to him, the NDE has constructed 70 skills training centres, with 40 of them fully functional, while 30 are at various stages of completion, seeking for the support of the High Commission in the area of capacity building for NDE trainers and women empowerment using the Indian model.
Responding, Sachdev revealed that NDE’s work is relevant to the High Commission because of its passion for training, stressing that India will reach out in concrete terms to help empower Nigerians with skills that will drastically reduce unemployment.
He advised the NDE to develop a new paradigm and model of public private partnership (PPP) engagement of strategic collaboration with relevant Indian business in Nigeria that can prove mutually beneficial.
