The training is in tandem with the Quick Fix/Technocultural Crafts Training Scheme (TECRAFTS) of the Vocational Skills Development (VSD) department of NDE.

Director -General of NDE, Alhaji Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, who flagged off the exercise in Makurdi, said the 100 participants comprised 50 for the Quick Fix and 50 for the Technocultural crafts trainees in Benue.

Represented by the State Coordinator, William Agada the director general counselled the trainees to pay serious attention to learning as the scheme was designed to revamp the indigenous cultural crafts which are risking extinction even though they are demand driven.

He said, “The objective of the scheme is to impact technical and vocational skills to unemployed persons, especially youth and women. To reduce poverty and hunger. To stem youth restiveness and social vices.”

The VSD Head of Department, Ene Awosika, encouraged the participants to use the opportunity to impact on their economic lives as skills have become the driving force of the nation’s present economy occasioned by the scarcity of white-collar jobs.

Felicia Oche, a beneficiary, promised that they would utilise it for the success of their prospective trades.
