The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) is training 100 unemployed persons under its Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS) in Edo State.

Speaking during the flag off of the training, the NDE Director General, Mr Abubakar Fikpo, represented by the NDE State Coordinator, Mr Solomon Edobor, said the trainees would be resettled with loans after the training.

He said 168 others would be resettled with loans as part of an effort to ensure food security in the state.

He said: “The Directorate has assigned the Rural Employment Promotion Department to implement the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS) and the Graduate Agricultural Empowerment Scheme (GAES) across the country.

“These schemes have over the years recorded huge success through rural economic growth, reduction of urban — rural migration, employment opportunities for graduates of tertiary institutions, wealth creation among others,” he said.

He said the SADTS and GAES targets graduates of tertiary institutions and local farmers who have strong passion for agriculture, adding that beneficiaries will receive soft loans of N100,000 to enable them start their own business.

Fikpo said SADES and GAES would absorb 69 graduates for another training, adding that those that would be recruited must have strong passion for agricultural production in livestock and crop production.

Upon completion of their documentation and receipts of the loan, the beneficiaries have a moratorium of six months, and are expected to repay the loans within three years.
