The National Directorate for Employment (NDE), said it has commenced training of 1,500 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) living in Gombe state on various vocational skills.

Director General of NDE, Dr Nasiru Ladan Argungu, who stated this at the official flag-off of the training, said the exercise was aimed at empowering the IDPs with skills that would enable them establish their own businesses.

Represented by state Coordinator, Malam Ibrahim Faisal Audu, Argungu said out of the 1, 500 IDPs, 919 are women and would undergo training on hair dressing, cosmetology, knitting, food processing and beverages making.

He said the 581 male beneficiaries would be trained on barbing, seedling multiplication, tiles and Inter-lock making among others.

Argungu added that the training was designed to take advantage of the opportunities in the micro and small business sub-sector of the economy for wealth and employment to be created and made the IDPs self-reliant.

He added that during the one month training the beneficiaries would be provided with transport allowance.

The state Commissioner for Youth Empowerment, Malam Farouk Yarma, pledged that his ministry would partner with the NDE to ensure success of the training.

He urged the beneficiaries to pay attention to the training.
