Alhaji Aliyu Bichi, who spoke in an interview with newsmen in Kano, said the youths would be trained in interlock and tree nurseries production, among others.
The coordinator said that the training would last nine months.
Bichi also said that another group of 20 unemployed youths were currently undergoing three months’ training on solar power installation and maintenance.
He said the training would enable the beneficiaries to set up solar energy entrepreneurship as part of effort to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country.
“So far the directorate in the state has trained over 2, 874 women and youths in various skills under its empowerment programmes or wealth creation programmes from January to August,” he said.
According to him, over 100 men and women were given N20,000 each as loan under the Micro Enterprises Employment Scheme (MEES).
Bichi further said that another batch of 50 young men and women received training in modern agricultural practices under the Rural Agricultural Development Training Scheme (RADTS) within the period under review.
According to him, the directorate also organised a training programme for 2,118 secondary school leavers with deficiencies in their school certificates under the Graduates Coaching Scheme (GCS).
The coordinator said that 81 instructors were recruited for the programme.
“Under the Graduates Attachment Programme (GAP), 50 unemployed graduates were deployed to willing employers of labour to acquire practical experience, thereby increasing their employability. We also recruited 100 persons under our community Based Training Scheme, 50 persons under the Advanced NOAS and 177 others under the Basic NOAS,’’ he added. (NAN).
