The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has trained 50 unemployed women graduates through its Women Empowerment Collaboration Scheme (WECS), in Jos, Plateau State.

The women from the 17 Local Government Areas were engaged for two weeks on food processing and packaging, event interior decoration and makeover, and the tying of ‘Gele’, a headgear.

The NDE Director-General, Abubakar Fikpo, represented by Linda Barau, said the programme was to help the women become self-reliant, advising them to be serious and ensure proper utilisation of the knowledge.

“I want you to take advantage of this programme to become an employer of labour in your various communities and financially independent. I assure you that more women will be assisted to have access to this kind of programme,” said the DG.

The State Coordinator of the scheme, Ibrahim Abdul’azeez, urged the participants to be punctual, attentive, and diligent to enable them to step down the training to the unemployed women, stressing that good resource persons have been engaged to train them adequately.

A participant, Von Dido, said the programme would go a long way in assisting them in their endeavours.
