The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has embarked on a 10-day training of 50 women graduates in Kano State on various skills to empower them and make them employers of labour.

The training programme, organised by the directorate under the Women Employment Branch tagged ‘Women Employment Collaboration Scheme (WECS)’, is a new scheme designed to improve the socio-economic development of women in their communities.

The state acting coordinator, Alhaji Idris Sani Yakasai, said the training was aimed at curbing the menace of unemployment among women, adding that it would equip the beneficiaries with skills in food processing and make-up among others.

In his address the Director General of the NDE, Alhaji Nuhu Fiko, said WECS was an integral part of the federal government’s agenda to eradicate poverty among the teeming women in the country.

Represented by the Head of Women Employment branch. Mrs Joyce  Yarnap, Fiko said the training was a pilot one, showcased in eight states of the country.

He explained that apart from Kano, other states that benefitted from the scheme are Katsina, Plateau, Delta, Enugu, Ogun, Nasarawa and Taraba.

He enjoined the beneficiaries to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the NDE to master all aspects of the skills being taught.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Aisha Muhammad thanked the NDE for the programme and also promised to put the skills into practice.
