The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced training of 50 youth in the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking at the opening, NDE Director-General Malam Nasiru Ladan, said the training would make the youths generate sustainable incomes and create jobs.

Ladan, who was represented by Mrs Naomi Nyadar, the FCT coordinator of the directorate, said the vision of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration on agriculture was to work with key stakeholders.

He said the policy of the Federal Government had opened opportunities for youths to embrace agriculture as a business, earn income and create mass employment.

He said the empowerment training would turn the trainees to commercial farmers with dependable farm income that would reduce commodity importation.

He added that the training scheme commenced in November 2017 in 19 states and is currently running in the FCT.

“In the FCT, 50 youth who are passionate about agriculture and have been selected from the six area councils will be given experiential and vigorous training in crop production/livestock farming”.
