The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has trained 800 graduates of tertiary institutions in Nasarawa State.

The state Coordinator of the NDE, Alhaji Dauda Idris-Wase, stated this at the orientation exercise for 50 new participants of the Graduate Attachment Programme (GAP) in Lafia.

“These beneficiaries are part of the 1,850 participants engaged for the scheme nationwide by the directorate. They are graduates who have completed their one-year compulsory NYSC scheme and each participant will be paid a monthly stipend of N15,000 during the three months’ attachment.

“These graduates are posted to public and private organisations relevant to what they studied in school.

“The resultant effects are threefold: to improve the employability of these graduates, close the skills gaps and build a competent workforce,” he said.

He stressed that the outcome of participation in the GAP is to confer a competitive edge to talents for their retention in the organizations where they serve since the exposure allowed the employers a full assessment of the interns’ job potentials.

Responding, Mr Isaac P. Anzaku, a participant thanked NDE for the gesture and promised to be good ambassadors of the scheme.
