The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has flagged off the training of 997 youths and women from Gombe State on vocational and entrepreneurship skills.

The Director General of NDE, Dr. Mohammed Ladan Argungu, revealed this in Gombe at the opening of an orientation ceremony of First Cycle of Skills for Job (S4J) programme under the Youth Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO).

Represented by the state Coordinator of NDE, Malam Ibrahim Faisal Audu, Dr. Argungu said the S4J programme focused on providing employment opportunities to unskilled and semi-skilled youths and women.

He said during the six months duration of the programme, the beneficiaries would be provided with trainings, internship and apprenticeship to make them employable and job providers in their respective areas of training.

Dr. Argungu added that a total number of 1, 098 prospective beneficiaries were screened from the Single Register (SR) of poor of the poorest from the three pilot LGAs of the state, out of which 997 have so far been verified.

He said, “The verified beneficiaries are expected to participate fully in two levels of training. The first level involves life skills training, sector specific training and entrepreneurship training.
