Leicester City midfielder Wilfried Ndidi has confirmed the horde of suitors seeking for his services ahead of the new season.
Ndidi who became a free agent after the end of the 2023/2024 English Football League (EFL) championship won by his club stated this on the heel of speculations of the interest of Olympique Lyonnais, Everton and other clubs.
Speaking with newmen yesterday during the groundbreaking ceremony of one of the hostels named after him at the Cana Junior Sports Centre Ajegunle, formerly known as Maracana Stadium in Lagos, Ndidi disclosed that he has been contacted but considering his move based on the convenience of his family.
“I have been contacted and just trying to see what suits me and my family going forward and the decision will be made in the coming. I don’t know the club yet but hopefully we will see, there is nothing hidden under the sun. We will see what comes out in the coming week,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction contributing to the development of grassroots sports in Nigeria, saying that he chose to involve himself in this project based on the conviction to improve the standard of facilities for young ones.
“It is really amazing because during my own playing days, it was not like this. I am really happy to be here and see what is going on. To be honest it is going to go a long way and make the kids happy.
The chairman, Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, Yemi Idowu attributed the construction of the Cana Junior Sports Centre Ajegunle as evidence of the private involvement in the sports sector.
“The government can not do everything so the private sector has to help them but it has to be inside a structured manner and that is what this has proven,” he said.
