The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 209 suspected drug traffickers following a raid on drug warehouses in Edo State.
The state NDLEA commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in Benin during a rally to commemorate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. He said the suspects were arrested between January and June this year.
He said they consisted of 129 males and 80 females, and were arrested at various warehouses across the state following the onslaught against illicit drugs in the state.
This onslaught, Mitchell said, was aimed at dislodging drug joints, identifying and evacuating illicit drug warehouses and destroying cannabis plantations through constant raid operations.
He said aside from the arrest, the agency also destroyed 20.433018 hectare of cannabis farms, with the seizures weighing 51,082.5453kg across the three senatorial districts of the state.
