 The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Benue State has arrested a total of 325 drug suspects within the space of one year from different locations in the state.

State Commander of the agency, Esther Lami Musa, who made the disclosure during a press conference in Makurdi to commemorate the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, said the arrests were made between June 2024 and June 2025.

Our correspondent reports that the command sensitised the Benue public on the dangers of drug abuse.

Musa said of the total number of 325 suspects arrested, 288 were males, while the remaining were 37 females.

She disclosed that a total of 1,902.2573kg of different kinds of drugs were seized within the period, including 1,682.169kg of Cannabis Sativa, alongside 55,0413kg of tramadol, 156.1033kg of cocaine syrup and 0.027kg Amphetamine amongst others.

The NDLEA commander worried that the usage of illicit substances contributes a great deal to insecurity bedevilling the state, stressing that all hands must be on deck to fight the scourge.  

She displayed the seized substances, including codeine-based syrup, allegedly among others on high use in Benue, stressing that the agency, through its robust initiative of war against drug abuse, will continue to clamp down on offenders.

Musa further disclosed that a total of 28 convictions were secured within the period under review, while 36 file charges were so far obtained and 205 clients counselled in the agency’s facility, in addition to 35 already rehabilitated and discharged.
