The Abia State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 344 suspects and recorded 53 convictions last year, its commander, Bamidele Akingbade, has said.

Akingbade said the command also recovered 3 tons of weeds suspected to be cannabis, heroin and some substance which tested positive for cocaine.

He said the command intercepted two vehicles, one in Umuahia and the other in Aba, coming from Edo State carrying some bags of dried weeds that tested positive for cannabis weighing 750kg.

“Under the Drugs Demand Reduction Activities (DDRD), 24 suspects were rehabilitated while 78 persons were arrested at different joints in the state, counselled and released,” he said.
