The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 37 suspected drug traffickers in the state.
The state NDLEA’s commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, who disclosed this, said the suspects were arrested in June.
“During the period, narcotic officials apprehended 37 suspects, comprising 25 male and 12 female,” he said, adding that the arrests were part of a broader strategy aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and addressing the concern of substance abuse within the community.
He said the command also seized 345.421 kilograms of narcotic drugs within the period under review, and destroyed illegal cannabis farms measuring 7.2738851 hectares with an estimated yield of 18,184.7128 kilograms.
The farms were destroyed at Okhuse and Ugbada Uzebba forests in the Owan West Local Government Area of the state.
He further said that the command had over 107 cases pending at the Federal High Court division in Benin City, but has secured the conviction of five persons while 11 suspects were charged to court within the period.
