Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State have arrested 44 alleged drug traffickers and seized 2,059.83kg of illicit substances.

The Commander of the agency in the state, Mitchell Ofoyeju, who disclosed this, said that the suspects were 21 males and 23 females.

Ofoyeju listed the drugs seized to include Indian hemp, tramadol, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine Codeine-based syrup, Flunitrazepam, Diazepam, Swinol and Danabol (Molly).

He said that a hemp farm measuring 0.583898 hectares with an estimated yield of 1,459.745kg was discovered and destroyed in the Igbeshi Forest in Imiakebo community in Etsako West LGA.

He further said, “Our operations during the month under review have dealt significant blows to drug cartels. 44 suspects have been arrested and substantial quantities of drugs weighing 2,059.83kg were seized.”

He added that the agency had secured 17 convictions with 126 cases pending at the Federal High Court in Benin City.
