NDLEA arrests 45 drug traffickers, seizes 537.808kg of Illicit substances in Yobe

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 45 drug traffickers and seized 537.808kg of substances suspected to be illicit drugs in Yobe State.

Abdulazeez Ogungboye, the NDLEA Commander in the state said out of 537.808kg seized substances, 396.526kg is Indian hemp while 141.282kg is psychotropic substances.

Displaying the seized substances to journalists, the NDLEA boss said the command recorded significant successes in 2024 in an effort to combat the menace of drug abuse.

He added that the state command had charged 46 drug offenders, secured 21 convictions, adding that the command had a total number of 85 cases pending at the Federal High Court, Damaturu.

He said the command had established a mini rehabilitation centre to provide support and care for individuals struggling with drug addiction.

The NDLEA boss added that five drug dependent persons had successfully completed three month rehabilitation programme at separate intervals, saying upon completion, they were discharged and reunited with their families.
