The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 46 suspected traffickers and seized 6,439 kilograms of narcotic drugs across the state in January.

The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this yesterday in Benin City while presenting the agency’s operational scorecard for January 2026. 

He noted that the agency also secured the convictions of seven persons during the month under review.

According to Ofoyeju, 105 cases are currently pending before the Federal High Court in Benin City. The suspects arrested during this period include 36 males and 10 females.

One of the most significant seizures involved the interception of 66 bags of cannabis, weighing 792kg, which were concealed inside bags of charcoal. 

He said a suspect, Shaibu Yusuf, was arrested in connection with the haul along the Auchi-Abuja Expressway while attempting to transport the illicit drugs to the northern part of the country.

According to him, of the 6,438.31 kilograms of cannabis seized, 4,063.87 kg were destroyed on-site at a cannabis farm, 2,374.46 kg were confiscated during various raid operations.
