The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Zamfara State has arrested 60 suspected drug users and dealers, the commander of the agency in the state, Mr Gabriel Adamu Eigege, has said.

Eigege said they had also dismantled over 35 identified black spots following the commencement of an exercise to dislodge places notorious for distribution of illicit drugs, adding that those arrested would be profiled and the law would take its course.

“As you are all aware, 2019 general elections are around the corner, this is an extra normal time which calls for caution. Desperate politicians would do everything to use drug  abusers to instigate violence and this must be stopped.

“Thuggery and violence are the tools used to cause fear and anxiety and other untoward acts inimical to the safe conduct of elections and in all these, illicit drugs remain the principal culprit,” he added.

He further explained that as an agency of government charged with the responsibility of suppressing the supply of illicit drugs, they are duty bound to put all measures necessary to check drug abuse within Zamfara State before, during and after elections.
