The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 38-year-old man with 24 kilogrammes of dried weed suspected to be cannabis.

The suspect, Ifa Bello, a father of two, who hails from Igba Ateru in Ondo State, was arrested at Egbeta village in Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state.

The command also seized 11 sacks of cannabis during a raid on a cannabis farmhouse at Uyere forest, Ovia North East of the state.

The NDLEA commander in the state, Buba Wakawa, said the drug found on Bello weighed 24 kilogrammes while the 11 sacks found in the cannabis farm weighed 138 kilogrammes, bringing the total seizure to 162kg kilogrammes.

Buba said the command had seized over 14,000 kilogrammes of drugs between January and April this year. He added that over 12 dry season cannabis farms measuring 7.5 hectares have been discovered and destroyed by the command during the period.

Wakawa said the suspect who dealt in Indian hemp was being interrogated by the command and would soon be charged to court.

He called on members of the public to give useful information on illicit drug dealers to the command, assuring that such information would be treated with confidentiality.
