NDLEA arrests man with 168kg of cannabis in Edo

A 38-year-old man has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), with 168 kilogrammes of dried weed suspected to be cannabis in Edo State.

It was gathered that the suspected cannabis farmer identified as Godwin Ijewemen who has been under investigation by narcotic officers, was arrested on October 30, at Ukpeje village in Owan West Local Government Area of the state.

Addressing journalists at the weekend, the state NDLEA commander, Buba Wakawa, said the suspect had been dealing in cannabis for the past five years.

He said the suspect was found in possession 168 kilogrammes  of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis while his cannabis farm measuring 2.102096 hectares, has been destroyed by agency’s officers.

The commander disclosed that a total of 20 suspected drug traffickers were arrested in October while 11,986.77 kilogrammes of cannabis were seized within the period.

According to him, the arrested suspects included 18 males and two females.

One of the suspects who spoke with journalists said poverty forced him into cultivation of cannabis.
