Anambra State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Sule Momodu, has expressed worry over rising cases of illicit drugs in the state. Momodu, who spoke yesterday when some members of the Anambra Youth Empowerment Initiative visited him in Awka, said the fight against illicit drugs should not be left for the agency alone.

While noting that most forms of crime and criminality in the society were attributable to illicit drugs, he challenged the organisation to sensitize and educate the youths on the dangers inherent in illicit drugs.

He called on the youths to be creative and innovative to enable them to be self-reliant, instead of looking for white collar jobs.

Momodu also pledged the agency’s readiness to collaborate with the organization to the menace in the state. Earlier, the Chairman of the Anambra Youth Empowerment Initiative, Nduka Alor, said his organization was determined to fight the illicit drugs among the youths through its empowerment programmes.

He also expressed displeasure over the rate at which youths engaged in illicit drugs in the state.
