The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed a cannabis farm spanning 1.625547 hectares in the state.

The State NDLEA Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this during a briefing with journalists in Benin City.

He stated that the farm, located in Ebora Camp within the Ilushi Forest of Esan South East Local Government Area, was completely decimated by the agency’s officials.

“This farm was estimated to yield approximately 4,063.87 kg of cannabis, representing a significant blow to local cultivation cartels in the state,” Ofoyeju said.

The Commander further revealed that the agency arrested two suspects, Chief James Abamu and Aboy Egah, in connection with the illicit trade.

He alleged that the suspects were found in possession of 681 kg of cannabis and 181 kg of cannabis seeds.

In addition to its enforcement successes, Ofoyeju noted that the command is active in drug demand reduction.

He stated that the command recently provided counseling services to 16 clients, while seven others are currently undergoing intensive rehabilitation at the command headquarters.
