The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 6,963.755 kilograms of drugs in Taraba State.

The national chairman of the agency, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah, while speaking in Jarouno village, said the drugs were made up of 4,413.566 kilograms of cannabis sativa and 2,550.189 kilogrammes of psychotropic substances, largely tramadol, cough syrup with codeine, rohypnol and diazepam

He said the situation of drugs in Taraba State and other states within the North-east was worrisome, adding that this was validated by the Nigerian drug use survey carried out by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

Abdallah said Taraba State was made more vulnerable due to its geographical location, bordering the Republic of Cameroon coupled with the activities of the hostile elements within the region fueled by funds from trafficking and drug use by their foot soldiers.

The chairman said the agency has embarked on a programme of action aimed at developing a critical mass movement against the drug menace with an all-inclusive and shared responsibility approach.
