Drug related offences are on the increase in tertiary institutions in Katsina State, the State Commandant, Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Maryam Sani, has said.
Speaking at a press conference, Sani said the number of drug related crimes linked to higher institutions has surged and that the situation was worrisome. She called on authorities to seek closer partnership  with the agency to address the menace.
According to her, 10 students from four different higher institutions were recently arrested with drugs just as others have been charged to court, saying that the rate at which students prefer drugs to their studies is high.
In the area of prosecution, 15 drugs suspects are serving various jail terms while 63 cases are still at various stages of trial at the federal high court.
