The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has presented a certificate of collaboration to the Grassroots Mobilizers for Better Nigeria Initiative (GMBNI) in recognition of the organisation’s commitment to combating drug abuse and other harmful substances at the grassroots level.

The presentation ceremony was held at the headquarters of GMBNI in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the media unit of GMBNI, the collaboration is aimed at strengthening advocacy and sensitisation campaigns against illicit drug use, particularly among young people and vulnerable members of society.

Chairman of the NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), was represented at the event by the Commander in charge of Narcotics and Sensitisation, Mr Shehu Dankolo.

The statement recalled that GMBNI had recently commended the efforts of the NDLEA through the publication of a book designed to educate grassroots communities, especially youths, on the dangers associated with the abuse of harmful drugs.

It noted that the leadership of GMBNI, led by its Chairperson and Founder, Dr Fatimah Mohammed Goni, believes that stronger collaboration between both organisations would help in disrupting the activities of drug cartels, dismantling their financial networks and expanding community sensitisation efforts across the country.

The statement further disclosed that the NDLEA had earlier deployed an inspection team to assess the NGO following its request for collaboration.

According to the statement, the inspection team conducted a verification exercise to determine the organisation’s credibility and capacity for partnership.

“The result of the positive assessment, having met all the conditions put forward, gave birth to the presentation of certification of collaboration to GMBNI,” the statement said.

Responding on behalf of the organisation, the Chairperson and Founder of GMBNI, Ambassador Fatima Mohammed Goni, who spoke through Hajiya Medina Dauda, expressed appreciation to the NDLEA for the recognition.

She said the gesture would further motivate the organisation to intensify its humanitarian and advocacy programmes aimed at providing relief and support to vulnerable groups in society.

Dauda also reaffirmed the commitment of GMBNI to sustaining its partnership with the NDLEA in the campaign against drug abuse and related social vices.
