The Jigawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded major breakthroughs in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking, arresting a recorded number of suspects and intercepting illicit drugs with an estimated street value of N2.5 billion.
The State Commander of Narcotics and NDLEA Commander in Jigawa State, Hassan Kaboju, disclosed this while addressing journalists during an exhibition of seized drugs as part of the agency’s 2025 operational review.
According to Kaboju, the display was organised to showcase the collective efforts and successes of the Jigawa State Command in curbing drug trafficking and abuse across the state.
“What we are witnessing here are the records of the efforts put in place by the state command in 2025, which culminated in the arrest of suspects and the seizure of the hard drug exhibits you are seeing behind us,” he said.
The NDLEA revealed that a total of 947,381 kilogrammes of assorted illicit substances were seized during the period under review.
These include 441,797.3kg of cannabis and controlled substances, 373,888kg of psychotropic drugs such as tramadol and diazepam, as well as petrochemical products and other abused substances.
Other items recovered include pregabalin tablets, pentazocine injections, rubber solutions and embalming chemicals such as formalin, all of which are increasingly abused, particularly by youths.
