Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 380 rounds of military-grade ammunition along the Abuja-Kaduna highway and handed over the suspect and exhibits to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.

The agency said the ammunition was recovered from a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, during a patrol operation at Jere, Kaduna State, on May 24, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the suspect was intercepted while allegedly transporting the ammunition to Katsina State.

The statement said the recovered ammunition comprised 380 rounds of 7.62mm military-grade bullets.

“In another interdiction operation in Kaduna State, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna highway at Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, with 380 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition on his way to Katsina State. The suspect and the exhibit have since been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further action,” the statement said.

Babafemi said the seizure came amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition across the country.

The agency also announced the arrest of a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, following the seizure of 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilogrammes at Gonin Gora in Kaduna State.

Elsewhere, NDLEA operatives in Lagos uncovered consignments of illicit drugs concealed in water purifier machines shipped from the Netherlands.

The drugs, comprising three kilogrammes of ketamine and 199 grammes of MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, were discovered at a courier company on May 26.

In Niger State, operatives raided a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, recovering 457 kilogrammes of skunk and arresting a suspect, Godwin Zakka.

Similarly, in Enugu State, NDLEA officers intercepted a commercial vehicle along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway and recovered 22,000 pills of tramadol, 100 ampoules of pentazocine and 200 grammes of bromazepam.

A suspect, James Maigari Wisdom, was arrested in connection with the seizure.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the momentum in the agency’s fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
