Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State have recovered 150 blocks and three sacks of loose cannabis sativa weighing a total of 112 kg.

 The recovery was made last Saturday after a road traffic accident on the Zaria-Kano Road near Gadar Tamburawa.

A statement by the spokesperson of the Agency in the state, ASN Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, said patrol officers heard a loud collision involving a Volkswagen Golf and a truck. 

They rushed to the scene to provide first aid and rescue the occupants.

He said after removing the windshield and a window to extricate the driver, they forced open the other door to remove the passenger, who immediately attempted to flee but was apprehended.

A search of the Golf revealed the cannabis. 

He said the passenger told the operatives that he was a representative of the consignor and had made similar deliveries in the past. 

According to the statement, the driver also admitted to using a one-way route to avoid NDLEA checkpoints when entering Kano.

Maigatari added that an investigation into the case is ongoing. 

He said the Golf’s driver is receiving medical treatment while the truck driver is reported to have sustained a fracture. 

The NDLEA noted that the incident involved two offences: reckless driving and drug trafficking.
