The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command, has recovered 8,000 bottles of Akuskura, an herbal mixture suspected to contain dangerous drugs, and 48 blocks of cannabis sativa.
In connection with the seizure, a 37-year-old suspect, Ali Muhammad, was arrested in possession of the items.
According to a press statement from the agency’s spokesperson in the state, ASN Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the interception occurred around Gadar Tamburawa on the Zaria-Kano Road.
He said during a stop-and-search operation, NDLEA officers intercepted a trailer traveling from Lagos to Maiduguri.
The statement noted that the trailer was fully loaded with tricycles (Keke Napep), and the illegal substances were hidden between and beneath the units, where a wooden cover had been constructed to conceal the items.
NDLEA operatives discovered the hidden consignment through their diligence and commitment.
Maigatari said the exhibits and the suspect are now in NDLEA custody, pending further investigation and laboratory analysis to confirm the nature of the substances and determine the full scope of the operation.
The NDLEA urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious consignments or activities to the nearest NDLEA office or other law enforcement agencies.
