NDLEA seeks support of Osun residents against illicit drug

Osun State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Mrs Sylvia Ekaete-Egwunwoke, has urged residents of the state to assist the agency in its fight against the use of illicit drugs.
The NDLEA boss ,who spoke in Oshogbo,on the commemoration of the United Nations ‘Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,’ noted that the agency would keep sensitizing the residents on the need to support the fight against illicit drug because of the consequences of drug abuse.
She complained  that instead of assisting the agency in the fight against illicit drugs, some communities within the state have become notorious for attacking NDLEA officers, inflicting serious bodily harm on them and vandalising official vehicles of the agency.
She warned that NDLEA would not tolerate such attacks on its men any longer and cautioned the perpetrators to desist or ready for serious consequence henceforth. She sought the cooperation of people in the grassroots for the success of the fight against illicit drugs.
“It is exceedingly worrisome that these communities that are meant to expose drug dealers and cultivators are actually offering them shelter and protection. Such communities should realise that drug abuse and violent crime go hand in hand.
“I want to sound a note of warning to these communities that henceforth, officers of the command would no longer show restraint in the light of such attacks and would apply whatever is necessary, in conformity with the laid down rules of engagement, whilst carrying out their duties.”
