The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized 506 kilograms of dried weeds suspected to be Idian hemp and arrested one suspect.

It was also gathered that a suspect, Clement Solomon, was arrested in one of the operations.
The Edo State NDLEA commander, Buba Wakawa, confirmed the incident, saying two seizures were made while one suspect was arrested.
He said the objective of the operation is to impede the movement of narcotic drugs during the festive season.
“We know that drug traffickers are targeting to move drugs this season. All we did was to identify and cordon off the major entry and exit points in the state. We intercepted two vehicles conveying dried weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa.
“The first seizure is a mini truck that took off from Uzebba in Owan West Local Government Area with 556 blocks of compressed cannabis weighing 443kgs destined for Kaduna State. The second vehicle is a Toyota saloon car with 63kgs of cannabis coming from Ondo State en route Anambra State,” he said.
He explained that the suspect with the Toyota car, Clement Solomon, was apprehended while the one with the mini truck is currently on the run.
The commander explained that it took the expertise of the officers to detect the drugs intelligently concealed in a false compartment of the mini truck.
Wakawa added that the command is working very hard to sustain this operation all through the festive season. “Certainly, hard times await drug barons,” he warned.
While noting that the operation was very demanding, he appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki to assist the command with operational vehicles.
“The drug barons use good vehicles and the only way we can have an upper hand is to have sound operational vehicles,” he said and assured that the suspect being will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.
