The Edo State commander of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mitchell Ofoyeju, has disclosed that the command recently seized 82 kilograms of cannabis and destroyed 11 hectares of cannabis plantation in Edo State.
Ofoyeju, who disclosed this in Benin in a chat with Daily Trust, restated the agency’s commitment to tackling drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the state.
“We successfully destroyed 28,000 kilograms of skunk, a potent local strain of cannabis, on three large plantations spanning over 11 hectares within the Ewere Uzebba forest in Owan West Local Government Area of the state.”
He added that during the operation, the agency uncovered 82 kilograms of processed cannabis inside a hut within the illicit drug farm, and the officers were attacked by an illicit drug cartel during cannabis plantation destruction but were repelled by the officers, who didn’t sustain injuries in the attack.
