Drugs seized by the NDLEA in Edo
The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized illicit drugs valued at N1.8 billion between January and March 2026.
The command also arrested no fewer than 104 suspected drug traffickers during the period.
The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchel Ofuyeju, disclosed this yesterday during the command’s first quarterly briefing for 2026.
“The command seized 18,380kg of illicit drugs in Edo State. The street value of these drugs is estimated at N1.8 billion,” he said.
According to him, the 104 suspects arrested during intelligence-led operations comprised 71 males and 33 females.
He explained that the seizures included 5,825kg of drugs recovered and 12,556kg of cannabis destroyed on 10 farms covering 5.02260 hectares.
Giving a breakdown, Ofuyeju said cannabis accounted for 18,293kg, psychotropic substances 6.01kg, methamphetamine 0.1888kg, cocaine 0.023kg, heroin 0.0151kg, and codeine syrup 81.4 litres. He added that the command secured 36 convictions — 32 males and four females — at the Federal High Court in Benin City.
“Twenty-eight drug-dependent clients were rehabilitated, while 66 others received counselling and were reunited with their families during the period,” he said.
Ofuyeju noted that the command also intensified anti-drug abuse campaigns, conducting 26 sensitisation programmes to highlight the dangers of drug trafficking and abuse in the state.
