The Niger Delta Peoples Movement has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Edwin Clark, a renowned statesman and fearless defender of the Ijaw nation.

Chief Clark’s lifelong dedication to the progress of the Niger Delta people, his wisdom, and steadfast commitment to equity and good governance will forever be remembered.

As a former Commissioner in the old Midwest Region, he played a pivotal role in shaping policies that laid the foundation for regional development .

NDPM, in a statement on Wednesday signed by its Convener, Ejiro Ineneji, described late Clark as a revered leader whose impact will forever be felt.

“His unwavering commitment to the rights and progress of the Niger Delta people, his fearless advocacy for resource control, and his relentless fight for justice made him a leader, mentor, and defender of the rights of the oppressed,” the statement read.

“Chief Clark’s lifelong dedication to the progress of the Niger Delta people, his wisdom, and steadfast commitment to equity and good governance will forever be remembered.

“As a former Commissioner in the old Midwest Region, he played a pivotal role in shaping policies that laid the foundation for regional development.

“Chief Clark’s passing is a tremendous loss, but his legacy of resilience, wisdom, and service will continue to guide the Niger Delta people.”

Ineneji prayed that his soul rests in eternal peace and extended deepest sympathies to his family, the Ijaw nation, the Niger Delta, and Nigeria as a whole.
