Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, NECA Director-General Olusegun Oshinowo said the aim of the donations was in the bid to promote technical and vocational education in Nigeria.
He said most graduates in the country do not have skills to really enter the work place “meanwhile there are vacancies in the workplaces which calls for technical and vocational skills.”
According to Oshinowo, “We believe as representatives of employers working with ITF to which employers contribute money every year, we could showcase the model for improving the quality of education in Nigeria so that we move from our education which is highly literate to a situation where education would be functional.”
He said, “We want to promote an educational system where the products are able to find a place in the labour market.”
Laboratory Instructor of the college, Usman Aliko, said the school has created time out of the school’s time table when the students can be free to come to the workshop and acquire more vocational skills.
He noted that some students of this school who graduated the previous year were absorbed by Dangote Academy on scholarship and eventually got jobs with same company.
