The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has officially handed over the site for the construction of a 25-kilometre asphalt overlay road from Buni-Yadi to Magza in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

During the handover ceremony, Mr Ali Abbas, NEDC State Coordinator, said the project formed part of the commission’s infrastructure development efforts under the North-East Stabilisation and Development Master Plan.

He said the road project, awarded to Grayland Multiple Investment Limited, would be completed within 12 months, adding that it aligned with Pillar 7 (Purposeful Infrastructure) and Pillar 11 (Connected Region) of the Master Plan.

“The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the leadership of the Managing Director of NEDC, Mr Mohammed Goni Alkali, and the six governors of the North-East, is committed to delivering impactful infrastructure across the region,” Abbas said.

He explained that the NEDC had completed and continued several key infrastructure projects in Yobe, including bridges and culverts washed away by the 2024 floods.

According to him, the completed and ongoing projects include a two-span bridge along the Damaturu–Gujba road, bridges at Jumbam and Kaliyari in Tarmuwa LGA, and a three-span bridge at Tandari in Potiskum LGA.

“The commission is working closely with the Yobe State Government to identify and execute more projects that would strengthen connectivity and support economic recovery in the region,” Abbas added.

In his remarks, the Yobe Commissioner for Works, Engr Umar Wakili, described the Buni-Yadi–Magza road as one of the most strategic in the state, linking major agricultural communities to markets.

“After the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway, this is the next most important road in the state because it will unlock huge agricultural potential and boost trade in southern Yobe,” Wakili said.

He commended NEDC for its commitment to infrastructural development, adding that the contractor was a local firm familiar with the terrain and expected to deliver the project ahead of schedule.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of Grayland Multiple Investment Ltd., Mr Musa Abubakar Imam, assured the stakeholders of timely delivery of the project.

“We have the capacity to complete the 25-kilometre section within the stipulated period. The entire stretch from Damaturu to Magza covers 77 kilometres, and we are ready to take up subsequent phases when awarded,” Imam said.

He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to quality work and adherence to project specifications.
