The North East Development Commission (NEDC) Yobe State office, on Thursday distributed agricultural inputs to 1,625 farmers in the state.

Flagging off the distribution for seven states of Zone (A) in Damaturu, the NEDC state coordinator, Dr Ali Ibrahim Abbas, said the inputs were meant to assist subsistence farmers to improve their yield.

He said the commission was working closely to complement the agricultural revolution initiated by the state government.

“We are very much concerned over the plight of farmers especially with regards to accessing inputs such as fertiliser, improved seedlings, insecticide among others.

“While this support is not enough, it is better than nothing. I am sure it will go a  little way in supporting our active farmers.’’

Items distributed included bags of NPK 20.10.10 fertilizer, improved variety of rice seedlings and pesticides among others.

The Chairman All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ali Ngaran, commended government for the gesture, adding that the support was timely as farmers were set to begin planting beans.
