The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has provided relief items to 1,000 households affected by the recent insurgency attack on Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. The intervention aims to cushion the hardship faced by victims. 

Weekend Trust reports that terrorists stormed the community Friday night, September 5, 2025, first engaging the military before proceeding to attack civilians where several people were left dead and many others injured. 

The distribution exercise was carried out by the NEDC, Borno State office, led by the state coordinator, Mohammed Umar, an engineer.

Speaking on behalf of the managing director/chief executive officer, Mohammed G. Alkali and the management of the commission, Umar commiserated with the community, praying for the repose of the departed souls and the quick recovery of the injured.

He noted that the intervention underscored the commission’s responsibility to support the welfare of communities affected by insurgency across the North-East.

Also speaking during the exercise, the head of branch operations, NEDC, Aishatu Mohammed Hassan, reiterated the commission’s commitment to intervening in situations of significant challenges and vulnerabilities. She emphasised that the NEDC remained steadfast in its quest to rebuild the region and boost socioeconomic development through its master plan designed to transform communities across the North-East.

The chairman of Bama Local Government Area, Alhaji Ali Guja, along with other community leaders, expressed gratitude to the NEDC for the prompt response, pledging a judicious use of the relief items.

The distributed items include food and non-food supplies, such as bags of rice, cartons of vegetable oil, pasta, blankets, men’s clothing, women’s wrappers  and rubber mats.
