NEDC distributes relief support to vulnerable groups in Borno

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed essential food and non-food items to families, especially persons living with disabilities in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The distribution was led by the NEDC Borno State Coordinator, Engr. Mohammed Umar, on behalf of the Commission’s Managing Director/CEO, Mohammed Goni Alkali.

Speaking at the event, Engr. Umar noted that the community of persons with disabilities was among the hardest hit by the perennial floods.

“About 50 percent of their members were affected by the floods. We felt it was important to reach out to them because they are among the most vulnerable and in need of support. We conducted an inventory and identified 706 members, all of whom are persons living with disabilities,” he said.

He further reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting the welfare of all people in the region, with particular focus on the most vulnerable groups.

Each beneficiary received a 25kg bag of rice, a 10kg bag of sugar, a gallon of vegetable oil, a carton of pasta and noodles, as well as a rubber mat and a blanket.
