The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated farm inputs and implements to the Gombe State government for onward distribution to dry season farmers, in order to enhance food production and the capacity of dry season farmers in the state.

The items donated include 500 pieces of 3-inch water pump, 5,000 litres of liquid urea and 7,000 litres of agrochemicals.

The acting Coordinator of NEDC in the state, Rufa’i Lawal Babamanu, who disclosed this at the weekend in Gombe, said the distribution of the items was in line with President Bola Tinubu administration’s efforts at boosting food production to achieve food insecurity in the country.

He said the commission was collaborating with the state government and other stakeholders to support the farmers directly, in order to boost dry season farming.

According to him, the items will be distributed through the state government, being one of the major stakeholders, to reach the targeted beneficiaries.

Babamanu further said the gesture had also been extended to the three senatorial districts of the state through the senators representing Gombe North, Gombe Central and Gombe Central Senatorial Districts, respectively and urged the beneficiaries to utilise the items judiciously.

Receiving the items, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Dr Barnabas Malle, lauded the commission for the gesture, saying that the inputs and implements would impact positively on farming in the state.
