NEDC donates relief materials to Boko Haram victims in Borno

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated assorted foodstuffs and non-food items to the victims of multiple blasts in Maiduguri metropolis, as well as victims of the renewed Boko Haram attacks in Konduga, Kukawa and Gwoza local government areas of Borno State.

The commission also donated building materials such as bundles of roofing sheets, ceiling boards, cartons of nails, pieces of blankets and mats for onward distribution to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Ngoshe and other villages seeking refuge in neighbouring communities.

Speaking to journalists after handing over the relief materials, the State Coordinator of the NEDC, Mohammed Umaru Watsada, said the relief materials include food items such as rice, spaghetti, vegetable oil and sugar, as well as non-food items including mats, blankets, clothing for men, women and children, and building materials such as zinc, ceiling sheets, timber and nails.

“Konduga LGA is slated to receive 300 bags of rice, 300 cartons of spaghetti, 250 units of vegetable oil, 100 bags of sugar, 500 mats, 500 wrappers, 500 pieces of men’s wear, and 500 pieces of children’s wear.

“Ngoshe/Gwoza LGA will receive 1,000 bags of rice, 1,000 cartons of spaghetti, 500 units of vegetable oil, 100 bags of sugar, 2,000 mats, 500 wrappers, 500 pieces of men’s wear, 500 pieces of children’s wear, and 2,000 blankets.

“While Kukawa LGA is allocated 500 bags of rice, 500 cartons of spaghetti, 200 units of vegetable oil, 100 bags of sugar, 1,000 mats, 500 wrappers, 500 pieces of men’s wear, 500 pieces of children’s wear, and 1,000 blankets.”

The coordinator further disclosed that financial support had been approved for victims, stating that families of those who lost their lives would receive N50,000 each, while those on admission in hospitals would receive N30,000 each.

He explained that the intervention covered Maiduguri metropolis as well as the affected three LGAs, adding that separate allocations were made based on assessed needs.
