At least 3,000 victims of windstorms and heavy downpours in Yobe State have received relief materials from the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
The beneficiaries were drawn from 13 of the 17 local government areas of the state.
Items distributed include 20,000 pieces each of timber wood and ceiling boards, 6,000 pieces each of 12mm and 10mm iron rods, 3,000 bundles of zinc roofing sheets, and 2,000 cartons of roofing nails.
While presenting the items, NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, represented by the Yobe State Coordinator, Professor Ali Ibrahim Abbas, said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the suffering of communities affected by natural disasters and communal conflicts.

He noted that the building materials were part of the commission’s commitment to support the most vulnerable households and improve living conditions in the North East.
Additionally, the NEDC donated search and rescue equipment to the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to enhance its capacity for rapid response during emergencies.
Items donated include rain boots, life jackets, pulley ropes and hooks, demarcation cables and wires, boat safety gear, and 15 full sets of search and rescue kits.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Mairo Ahmed Amshi, expressed the Yobe State Government’s gratitude to the NEDC for supporting flood and conflict victims with building materials and emergency response equipment.
She assured that the relief materials would be used judiciously and for their intended purposes.
